September 4, 2008 Regular Monthly Meeting
Minutes of: Regular Monthly Town Board Meeting Thursday, September 4, 2008 7:00 pm Vol 7, Page 150 Present: George Champeny, Karl Jennrich, Jim Hedberg and Rich Martinson. Others: Roger & Audrey Flaherty, Ken Whyte, Jim Fruth, Bob Bauer, Rich Bargholz, Pete & Melissa Hogenmiller and Brian Engel. Absent: Steven Rhode, Gary Vold and Nancy Vold Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Champeny. Pledge of Allegiance was given and no public comment was raised. Jennrich motioned for the approval of the agenda, was seconded by Champeny and carried. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved in a motion by Champeny, was seconded by Jennrich and was also carried. Pete Hogenmiller presented signatures of nearly 100 persons who were concerned about the vehicle speed on Monheim Road. The road is a straight shot and vehicles exceed safety approaching hills and driveways where persons pull out and a vehicle is then on their bumper. Hogenmiller stated that the sheriff’s department said that only with signs would they be able to enforce violations. Champeny stated that in the past, signs are just an expense and the speeders are the ones who ignore and don’t even see the signs nor would they slow down if they did. Church Road signs for persons asking for them, were paid for by those residents. Bassler, Scott, Rea and others paid for their signs. Jennrich motioned to post 40 mph signs (7 requested) on Twin Lake Road, Monheim and Church with the cost paid by those wanting them. A cost figure for the signs will be given to Pete Hogenmiller at cost from Sign Company from Marathon Wisconsin. The board discussed letter from Forestry about options for road maintenance. The board did not favor giving up roads or portions thereof to the County. Discussion was tabled until full board could make a decision. Kevin Schlosser, EMS Director provided a July report with positive figures for 22 ambulance runs. Year to date, we are a positive $5,891. Rich Martinson stated that requirements for emergency services on State or Federal roadway, will require reflective pants in addition to vests beginning November 24th. Through Pitlik and Wicks safety officer, Rich got a good price and wanted to get hem ordered right away. Hedberg stated that the EMS through ERMH just received grant funds of $4,000+ to be used for equipment, training or supplies. Rich further reported that Struck Road had been pulverized and the lifts need to be completed. Gravel comes from Pitlik and may need to be hauled from the pit on Highway 45 south of Land O’Lakes. Permission was granted for grinding the stumps vs pulling and it was reported that tree removal resulted in damage to the window on the Kamotsu. Flaherty presented a proposal from the Lions for utilizing the donated funds from Bud Reed to make a rain shelter (16 x 20) at the front of the park near the playground equipment. Location or exact placement was discussed and it was stated that they should get approval from the other organizations also. Rich to mark place and get with Roger Flaherty so other organizations can see the selected location. Town approval was given in a motion by Champeny, seconded by Jennrich and carried. Town claims were processed. Motion was made for adjournment at 8 pm by Jennrich, seconded by Champeny and was carried. James M. Hedberg Clerk-Treasurer
