The Town of Conover convened a meeting at 6:00 pm on
Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in the Conover Center for the sole purpose of
opening, reviewing and acting on the quotes provided for the roads
which were posting and published in accordance with law. In
attendance was Steve Rhode, Karl Jennrich, George Champeny, Rich
Martinson, Jim Hedberg, Brian Pitlik (Pitlik and Wick), Steve
Bartoszek (Northeast Asphalt – Iron River), Bob McMahon and Cheryl
Borlick.
Meeting was opened by Chair Rhode. Bid Quotes were read in
order. Torch Lake was omitted due to the fact that it was bid and
accept last year and the price was honored for this project.
Motion was made by Jennrich to accept the bid of Pitlik and
Wick for Church Road 1.038 miles at $133,552.90. Motion was seconded
by Rhode, there was no discussion, all were in favor – none opposed
and was carried.
Old Highway 45 was reviewed and it was agreed that it should
be re-bid for inplace milling and chip seal on the remaining portion
which would have to wait until next year’s review.
It was recommended that the chip seal roads be prepped and
single base layer applied one year, with observations being made the
following year for repair and evaluation and then application of a
second layer.
Motion was made by Jennrich to accept the bid of Pitlik and
Wick for Hanson Road at cost of $50,419.00. Motion was seconded by
Champeny, none opposed and was carried.
Motion was made by Jennrich for prep and base layer only for
Bay Road at $12,390.00. Motion was seconded by Champeny with none
opposed and was carried.
Motion was made by Jennrich for acceptance of the bid for prep
and base layer only at $32,500 for Pioneer Road. Motion was seconded
by Champeny with none opposed and was carried.
Motion was made by Jennrich for prep and base layer only for
Razorback Road at cost of $83,898.71. Motion was seconded by Champeny
and was carried.
The highway department was running into snags on prep work on
Pioneer Creek Road so is holding off on it until next year (2008) and
Birch Point Road needs a lot of prep work which would not be able to
be accomplished this year, so will see where it stands next spring.
Total of highway project expenses for 2007 is $312,760.61 with
balance of last years Torch Lake Project after escrow $11,000.00
Borrowing and fund balance together generates $650,000 less expense
for 2007 of 323,760.61 balance for carry-over for 2008 projects of
$326,239.39. With no other business to transact, meeting was
adjourned at 630 pm in motion by Jennrich, seconded by Champeny and
carried.
