September 9, 2007 Property Assessment Notices
Property Assessment Notices If you received a notice of assessment and you feel that the assessment is incorrect, you must contact the Assessor. You do not have to wait for the Open Book session on Saturday, September 15th. The assessment roll is available in the Clerk’s Office for you to inspect and you can look up neighboring properties to see what that assessment is. This is public record and that is why it is open for inspection and the open book gives you the opportunity to discuss the assessment with the Assessor. This can be done on the phone or with an appointment before the public date. Then if you read the back of the assessment notice, you will see that what is stated above is a standard State Procedure. If after discussing the assessment with the Assessor and you wish to object before the Board of Review, you must immediately contact the clerk, file an objection form and arrange for a Board of Review hearing. You can not just show up on Sunday, September 23* and expect to have a hearing arranged without the Statutory advance filing. Contact the assessor @ 479-8889 or 479-6671 For assessment procedures and forms: www.dor.state.wi.us
