Board of Review's Open Book

Information Regarding Annual Board of Review

Ref:  Wisconsin Statute 70.47

Boards of Review operate like a Court of Law!  Their function is NOT one of valuating your property assessment, but of making a decision on the validity of the facts presented that are DOCUMENTED and that can provide validity of an ERROR in the property assessment.

A Board of Review hearing is over the assessed value of Land and Improvements – the term TAXES has absolutely no place in any conversation or proceedings of the Board of Review.  OPINION is not admissible at a Board of Review hearing.

The below links will provide you with

UP TO DATE INFORMATION ON THIS TOPIC.

A Board of Review meets annually at any time during the 30 day period beginning on the 2nd Monday of May.  Normally because the assessment role has not been completed because of the climate and conditions in the North Woods of Wisconsin, the board will meet and adjourn to such time that the role is done.  Notices of the adjourned Board of Review will be posted in the 3 official locations in the town and also on the town website.

The first required step in objecting to an assessment after receiving a notice  from the assessor, is to contact the assessor.  Do it right away so any issue can be investigated, inspected on site and possibly resolved without going any further.  The “Objection Form” for a hearing before the Board of Review is the last resort.  The web links above will give you all the information you will need.
